Day 11 Cleanse finished

Day 11. The cleanse is over now. Starting today I have 4 vitamin and mineral and oil supplement cap packets to take a day. Also meal replacement shakes. Holy crap, I tried to gag one down this morning. It was so thick and viscous and nasty I had to eat it with a spoon, and I still feel grosse from it. I ordered it in vanilla so I could add flavors to it. I put rasberries in it this morning and it still tasted just like those old Metrex shakes from 20 years ago. remember that shit? I DON'T think I can use these. I will just have my REAL smoothies when I want a meal replacement cause EW! I am imagining that GLUE in my stomach right now, and the thought is making me ill.
Also my weight is stalled again at 127. I will see for how long that lasts.I do feel very toned though. I bet I have lost some inches for sure.
So, onto the concept of the food diary.(I said I'd write about it) I have kept one for a long time. If you are dieting, there is nothing more important. Sometimes I look mine over with a highlighter and see what time of day I tend to need snacks, when I am most tired, when I crave protien. Its good to write down what excersize you did that day, when you craved what..that way you can figure out when to plan a snack and curb your urges before they happen. Here is one of the MOST important things aabout a food diary: If you take a bite of a sandwich, you write it down. If you dont write it down, that's cheating! Because the bites add up! And this is where a food diary can really help you! Even 5 almonds twice a day add up to over 100 kcals! So you need to write it down. And DRINKS count! ALOT. If you crave soda, drink lemon or lime selzer water instead. Diet soda can actually fool your cells into storing fat! EW! And the chemicals are nasty! They create things like fibroid tumors!(and worse!)
Treat your body like a machine and it will run like one! Latahz! =)

On daily weighing & BMR formula

Nothing new to report.
Weight hanging in at around 127.. I fluctuate A LOT, which is why daily weighing might not be a good idea for you if you stress out about things like that. I have watched my weight long enough to know that my body hangs around at a certain weight for a week or two even, going up, going down, THEN a couple pounds will disappear.
Weekly weighing would seem to make more sense, but for me, the daily ups and downs help me get a bead on things like how salt intake and monthly hormonal fluctuations effect my weight. It also teaches me the value of staying the course.
In November I hit a huge plateau. If you follow me on Twitter you may have heard me having a snit about it. A full month of 1200-ish per day VERY clean eating and MUCH working out, and zero weight loss! I was beginning to seriously doubt my metabolism! But,I stuck with it, and b4 long five pounds just melted away, and now, I feel like my metabolism maybe did a reset, because ever since that hump, everything has been going more like it should.
I figured out my BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) the other day. That means my very base-line caloric intake to sustain function in my body with NO exercise. It is aprox 1293 calories a day. BMR should account for about 75% of your calories, so for me, on a Non workout day 1600 cals should be a maintenance figure. So when I am cutting weight (notice as "a fighter" I use the term cutting rather than "losing"...lols)my 1200 cal per day intake means I should lose a pound every 9 days per formula, and that's been exactly right. It just took patience and stick-to-itive-ness.
Here's the BMR formula for women:
655 + (4.3 x weight)+ (4.7 x height)- (4.7 x age)= BMR
Next post will be about keeping a food diary. The MOST important tool for healthy eating and weight loss!

Screwed it up...

I forgot it was Friday, woke up and still 1/2 asleep I drank the fiber drink that I was supposed to take in 4 days. DUH! I am mad at myself. Oh well, I will re adjust but I cant believe I did that!
Looks like I already lost 2#s since Tuesday on this stuff though. wow, I am surprised. It hasn't been hard at all. I was told to expect to feel maybe a little dull and sick during the cleansing part of the 24 Day Challenge, but so far I actually have felt pretty good end energized. I even have been waking up b4 the alarm the past few mornings. (perhaps it's the tons of taurine coursing through my body....)Either way, It hasn't been bad at all.
I am eating brown rice a lot, and using Alton Browns method of oven baking it. It hard to cook brown rice up here in the mts, but his way works!

Alton Browns Oven Brown Rice

You boil 2 1/2 cups of water with a Tbls of butter and a pinch of salt. Put 1 1/2 cups brown rice in a glass baking pan (small one) pour boiling water on top, cover pan with alum foil tightly, then put in a 375 F oven for an hour. Perfect rice every time!
Anyway, I had sardines for dinner last night and a bowl of boiled broccoli. Yum!
Healthy and deelish! I found out the Reeses sardines are way better than other brands I have tried!

OK guys keep on training!

24 Day Fitness Challenge/ Advocare

So I haven't blogged for a while. NO inspiration. Ive been stressed out and busy student teaching, and training at Art Of Defense, then there was THE HOLIDAYS. *shudder*
But it's all OVER now. It's a new year, a new decade. I don't have any resolutions to speak of... Those pounds that crept on after my surgery in Aug are nearly gone, I feel healthy and energized. Good time to start the "24 Day Fitness Challenge"!
Truthfully don't believe in doing all these synthetic diet/health aids. This one touts itself to be natural, and it does add in such things as Omega oil caps, (I usually get mine naturally through seeds and fish...)But right away I saw tuarine as an ingredient on the energy packets, soI may or may not take those.
Anyway, so partly I am trying "24FC" because all my buddies at the gym are doing it, and partly because maybe I will be able to shed the last stubborn 5#s with all this "herbal cleansing" nonsense.lol...
Of course along with the challenge, you aren't supposed to have bread or dairy or corn (which I don't do anyway) You are supposed to eat low fat proteins and tons of fruits and vegies. Well, lucky for me, it's what I eat ANYWAY. But most of the other 9 people in the challenge are really ummm challenged by not being able to get fast food etc.I would imagine, that if everyone in the fitness challenge loses weight, it will be more from the healthy diet than from the supplements!
So today's regime started with the Advocare fiber drink. Tonight I take 3 pills that are "herbal cleansing". This I am supposed to do for the first 3 days, then the regime changes to only the herbal cleansing pills + a pro-biotic pill for 4 days, then back to the drink plus pro-biotic for the last 3 days of the cleansing portion of the 24FC. (SO out of the 24 days, 10 are "cleansing" days.)
Last night at class, all 10 of us weighed in and had measurements recorded all over our bodies. At the end of the 24 days, re-measure and re-weighing.I weighed in at 129# (that's an eve weight.. Id be 127# in the a.m...)and I didn't really see the measurements. That will remain a surprise, but I will post the results.
Perhaps I will try to keep up with some sort of blogging as I go here too.
ok, I'm outty!

Lobsters and Independance Day!

For the 4 th of July we started a new tradition 3 years ago.
Well, our grocery store started it I guess due to their Lobster bash for the 4th. $13.99 live maine lobsters WOOT! #1.25 fresh!
Since its a BBQ holiday and its usually warm we have taken to grilling the ill fated bugs.
This year, I plan to try a method of stabbing them behind the head to kill them first. I tend to jump around and scream alot when they are thrown on live!(unbecoming for a "toughgirl" like me! lol) It seems way worse than dropping them into a vat of boiling water for some reason.
Wish there was a way to eat them that's healthier than drawn butter. maybe Ill eat mine with only lemon.
The fireworks will be fun, we have lots of friends coming over to watch them from our yard! HAPPY INDEPENDANCE DAY!

Bruises and Fish Tacos

So I haven't blogged much about cooking... I know. SOON.
But today's topic is BRUISES. My husband hates it when I have bruises, but I cant help it! I do a contact sport for gosh sakes. I always had bruises from sparring at TKD but never like the bruises I get from MuayThai kickboxing with guys!

The one above was from some repeated kicks to the thigh when I was just learning how to Thai-check an incoming..lol... guess I wasn't too good at it yet!

I dont even notice them (unless they are huge and painful) but people are always making comments and looking horrified because of little black eyes, arm bruises, shin bruises etc. Its kind of funny..they look even more horrified if you tell them you got it in a fight! I guess I could make up stories that I was moving furniture or I fell down the stairs.

I understand that my husband especially hates it when I have a black eye, he insists people look at him like he's a wife beater, and in todays society I can see his point. Ha ha sympathy for me!

OK on to cooking! I AM gonna cook tonight, Gonna make some fish tacos on the grill with Orange roughy. I plan to make an avacado spread for them and a corn relish, a salsa verde and a mango salsa as well... yummers! Puttin on corn tortillas. I notice that alot of people marinate then fry or grill the fish and flake it into the tacos, others batter and fry the chunks of fish. Obviously the fried would be crispy deelish, BUT Im also looking for HEALTH minded dinners for the family here, so I will most likely do the flaked. (must take a vote from the family!) Either way, I rarely eat my own cooking since Ive been on a raw foods health binge... Probably break down for fish, but avoid the corn tortilla. I'll put it in a lettuce wrap! WOOT!

Well, thats it for now, I covered some fighting AND some food! =) Smile cause "It's ALL GOOD!"

Hyper

Some nights I train at AOD pretty late..like till 9:00 or later, then drive the half hour home. The late night workouts are usually the most intense because they are the competitive class. Which means, we work out cardio we spar etc. The class consists of me and 15 guys who really want to fight. It gets rough, but I love it. The intensity, my adrenaline, the workout, the sweat.. Not the man sweat, that part is icky...(hasnt anybody heard of freakin deoderant?!)
So anyway, I always feel queasy after these workouts cause they take alot out of me and I never want to eat afterwards. (I SURE cant eat b4 because then I would throw up and thats never fun.) So, comes 10:30 pm or so and I go to sleep, only to wake up around 2 a.m. starving!! So, off I go into the dark kitchen in the wee hours of the morning to forage for food. As I said in a previous blog entry, this cant be good. But Im telling you, Im STARVING or I wouldnt get out of bed. So...the question is, how to change and or avoid this weirdness. Force myself to eat b4 bed? Bring a snack up to bed? Try to ignore the hunger pangs? (this one doesnt work..I just lay there awake till I eat) Ug.. Ya so Im figuring oout how to deal with this.
(GOD my blogs are interesting!! >__<)
